Serving Easton, MA

Hardscape & Paving Contractor in Easton, MA

Easton is home. Our yard is on Washington Street in South Easton, and four of the projects on this site were built here.

Our Home Town, and Where Much of Our Work Is

CJ Pickering Enterprises is based on Washington Street in South Easton. More of the work shown on this site was built in Easton than anywhere else: a paver pool deck and fire-pit patio, a paver driveway with a circular inlay in North Easton, a pavilion patio and outdoor kitchen, and a poolside pavilion with a fire-pit patio.

We know this ground. Easton’s land runs north to south in well-drained glacial ridges, with wetlands and water covering close to a quarter of the town between them. We build patios, pool decks, paver driveways and fire pits here, pave asphalt, and handle snow and ice for local businesses.

Planning a Project in Easton

Fifty Feet From a Wetland: No Pools, Decks or Sheds

Easton’s wetland regulations set an inner 50-foot no-disturbance zone on undisturbed land. Pools, decks, porches and sheds are all on the list of what cannot go there, and driveways, fences and walls are allowed only when there is no workable alternative. On land that is already disturbed, the Commission looks for no net increase in hard surface.

The outer 50 feet of the buffer is protected but workable. The town’s bylaw also reaches 200 feet from any river, stream or creek, including ones that run only part of the year. Start with the Conservation Commission’s permits page.

Septic for Most of Town, Sewer in the District

Easton has not had town-wide sewer. Homes have relied on septic systems, and the town has since created a Sewer District, beginning with North Easton Village, whose map was amended again at a town meeting in November 2025.

So the first question on an Easton job is still which one you have. If it is septic, the tank and leaching field go on the plan before the patio does. The Board of Health holds the records.

Twenty-Four Feet at the Curb

The town’s street opening regulations require a Public Works permit for any work in the public right-of-way, which includes installing or changing a driveway, curbing or a sidewalk. A curb cut for a home is limited to 24 feet unless the DPW Director approves more.

The driveway has to meet the edge of the road without overlapping it, and be graded so water does not pond in the street. DPW permits are filed through the same online system as building permits.

In the Historic District, Walls and Walks Are Reviewed

Easton’s Local Historic District takes in the Ames Historic District in North Easton and the Hayward Pool district. There, exterior changes visible from a public way need a certificate from the Historical Commission, and the bylaw’s definition of a structure includes fences, walls, terraces, walks and driveways. Planting is not restricted.

North Easton is known for its stonework, so new walls and walks there are worth doing in materials that belong. Building permits are paperless, through the town’s PermitEyes portal.

Town rules change. We last checked these against Easton’s own pages in October 2026, so confirm with the town before you build.

Easton Project FAQs

Easton, MA: Where is CJ Pickering located?

On Washington Street in South Easton. Easton is our home town, and four of the featured projects on this site were built here, in Easton and North Easton. You can see three of them on this page and the rest on our projects page.

Easton, MA: Does Easton have a winter parking ban?

Yes. Parking is banned on every street from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m., each night from December through March, and a vehicle that gets in the way of plowing can be towed at the owner’s cost. It is a common reason Easton homeowners ask us to widen a driveway.

Easton, MA: Do you plow snow for Easton businesses?

Yes. Easton is the center of our snow and ice management service for commercial properties. Because our equipment is kept in town, we are close by when a storm starts.
